Maureen Seibert has performed with the Capri Big Band for the past 12 years playing alto saxophone and clarinet. She recently stepped into her new role as the Capri Big Band’s musical director when their beloved director, Faye Washington, passed in June of 2025.
Maureen Seibert comes with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota. Director Seibert worked fourteen years as a junior high school then high school band and jazz band director in Minnesota.
During her time as a music teacher, she also directed high school and Masquer’s Theater musicals. And for a couple of summers, Maureen was the lead clarinet instructor for the Minnesota State High School League State Honor Band. Throughout her career, Maureen was actively engaged in college conducting seminars.
However, her experience with jazz includes working with adults. She studied jazz improv at the McPhail School of Music with Jim ten Bensel, Capri’s lead trombone player! She also continues her jazz education at Normandale Community College.
After earning her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, she became a school principal for 24 years. Having never lost sight of her love for music, she retired from the St. Paul public schools after 39 years of service and returned to her musical endeavours. In addition to directing the Capri Big Band, Maureen currently performs in the Normandale Community College Concert Band, Jazz Combo and Jazz Band. She also plays clarinet and sings with the Trinity Lutheran Church choir in Stillwater, Minnesota.
After retiring, Maureen Siebert continues to pursue her love of music while expanding her knowledge of jazz performance and ensemble conducting. Having been a member of this organization for 12 years while working with Faye Washington and highly talented musicians, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this group. Maureen is delighted to be the director of the Capri Big Band.
